Games about vampires have always been especially popular. Especially if they are made based on the famous desktop universe Vampire: The Masquarade. We all remember the remarkable RPG Redemption and Bloodlines, which successfully adapted the cult Sooper under the video game format. However, such deep and exciting RPGs about vampires have not been done for a long time. Now we are forced to be content with much more simple and superficial variations on a given topic. Such as, for example, Blood Knights.

True, the authors failed to achieve a given bar.
Although they, of course, tried. They came up with a good story that makes the vampire hunter fight his shoulder to the shoulder with … vampire, that is, with a pretty girl who loves to fall to the male shake. The brave knight and the vampire were connected by a certain ritual, and then the warrior also turned into a bloodsucker. And now this couple is looking for a way to break vicious bonds, and the knight, of course, wants to return his human essence. At the same time, they try to tear out a certain important artifact from the paws of vampires to prevent the next genocide.
To this plot, the authors screwed not the most outstanding, but in theory, quite efficient mechanics, interfering with elements Diablo and Aqua-Adverse. We not only fight, “pump” the heroes, look for chests with equipment and collect gold from the defeated enemies, so that then exchange it from the merchants for new bronze armor, but we also jump on the platforms, overcome traps and even solve simple puzzles. So, periodically you need to activate some important button, lower the bridge or break the wall leading the chest with treasures or to special coins-by collecting a certain amount, it will be possible to increase the characteristics of the characters.

looks good in theory, you still need to be just as well implemented in practice. And here at Blood Knights Explicit problems are found. Firstly, the creators did not fully work out a good plot tie. Heroes move along the rails of the script, only occasionally making stops for sluggish bickering with each other and some really dramatic solutions. Several times in the game you need to choose: to remain a person or finally go to the side of the bloodsuckers? So, you can free the vampire sentenced to burning, or help save the soul of two fallen commanders of ghouls. However, such situations are too rare, and their consequences are not so global that the game turns into something more than the usual role action. In addition, in the final, we just have any choice (although the situation itself is clearly hinting at it): everything ends trite, and even with an obvious back to the continuation, which, quite possibly, will not be – too low in Blood Knights estimates.
Secondly, the battles are not too inspired. They are not so primitive, on the contrary, the mechanics itself (again in theory) implies interesting nuances. Freely switching between the heroes, it is necessary to use different skills and weapons depending on the situation: the knight, of course, destroys everyone in close combat, and the girl is losing enemies from the crossbow. In addition, you can and should drink the blood of opponents directly in the battle to restore health;avoid water and torches thrown into us, which cause increased damage to vampires;set fire to explosive containers and conduct special attacks to destroy the protection of some opponents. At some point, we are even allowed to climb into a sort of local analogue of the “fur” in order to destroy everything in its path. In place and fights with “bosses” using special tactics.
Alas, in fact, all this quickly bored. Fights mostly pass in narrow corridors, the scenery practically does not change. And most importantly, you often have to fight not so much with enemies as with uncomfortable control (at least on the keyboard): when you once again fall from the cliff due to the camera curve or you can’t jump to the bridge and return to the last (and very unequal) “Checkpoint”, the game turns into continuous torment.
IN Blood Knights it’s hard to find at least some advantages. In places, if you really, very, you can even enjoy it: it looks tolerable, there is a moral choice, and it is interesting to look for different secrets. But in general, as in the case of another recent German RPG about vampires, Dark, it is felt that the authors could not realize the initially good potential, reducing everything to very monotonous battles.
